i'm going birdwatching at the local Audubon center tomorrow morning. as i told Amy this evening, i'm filled with "childlike glee" and sweet anticipation.

don't think i'll be wearing these on my nature walk, but i bought them last week for $20 (75%off!), and i love them!!  they're one of those sublime shopping finds, just the thought of them puts me in a really good mood. i'm quite fond of the furry-trimmed boot trend this winter. the first thing my brother said when he saw them was, "What's with the superhero boots?" :)

i just got an e-mail from one of my favorite professors, from my Philosophy of Religion course a few years ago. it's funny, cos she's probably the only one i'd ever approach to do a recommendation for me for grad school, and here she is getting in touch with ME!

Hi Vishala,

I just came across your name in my files and wanted to say
hi. I think of you from time to time and wonder what you're up to.

I teach a course in the fall on Religion East and West you'd
really like. We talk about everything from Chuang Tzu to Whitehead.
Not quite Seth, but not too far off.  I've discovered that Chinese
philosophy has a really wonderful, light spirit that can help us in
this path of transformation.

Let me know where you're up to and thinking about these days!

All best wishes,

Diana Lobel

She did a free lecture recently, i think on Sufi thought, was gonna go to it but forgot about it when the time came around. oh well. think i might drop by her office and pay her a visit.
i was so happy to get this message!

i've just introduced myself to the music of Patti Smith with an album called Gung Ho. got it from the local library last week. it overwhelms me, hearing something late (and deeply compelling) from the career of a legendary artist, and now being faced with the task of devoting myself to delving into an extensive and more greatly-reputed back catalogue.

just reading about her, and she seems kind of  "too good to be true."

Marie's got November 5th X'd out in a thick black marker on her calendar. there's no emoticon to express the sadness of this. it's the only thing in her apartment that is revealing of what happened.

there's a red star helium balloon stuck way up at the top of a tree outside my kitchen window. i thought it was a dangling child wearing an orange parka at first. i didn't understand.

saw Jack White from the White Stripes in Barnes and Noble in Kenmore Square this morning. he walked right by me, and i did a double take, he was getting on line to get coffee from the cafe with a friend.
ooh.
i try not to care about celebrities, but hey, it was kind of exciting. and weird. he was wearing a black hat and his hair was all straggly, which is what made me recognize him immediately.
