i've just introduced myself to the music of Patti Smith with an album called Gung Ho. got it from the local library last week. it overwhelms me, hearing something late (and deeply compelling) from the career of a legendary artist, and now being faced with the task of devoting myself to delving into an extensive and more greatly-reputed back catalogue.

just reading about her, and she seems kind of  "too good to be true."

Hey Vishala:)

I got Horses a few years ago and whilst songs like Birdland and the title track are really good, I think her lyrics are absolutely dreadful adolescent poetry and she takes herself FAAAR to seriously. I've got a love/hate relationship with Patti. Johnny and Morrissey love her though, so she must be alright;)

heya ruth. "dreadful adolescent poetry." haha, i think this is why i'm afraid of writing lyrics, or even attempting. there's just no point, if it's not inspired. i haven't taken a really good look at the lyrics of this album i got, i really like her voice and the mood and melodies. :)
